Website Development Services in Germany

A Web Development Company for German Businesses

Softcrust builds custom WordPress, Shopify and WooCommerce websites for businesses in Germany. Each project covers design, development, mobile speed and the legal pages German sites need, so the site can go live without a last-minute scramble over Impressum or cookie consent.

Below you will find typical prices in euros, the German rules that affect a website, how a project runs and what to ask before you hire a web developer.

What does website development include in Germany?

Website development turns a design into a working site: front-end code, a content management system, forms, payment, testing and launch. It also covers the parts German visitors and regulators look for, such as an Impressum, a privacy policy and a working cookie banner.

German searchers often use their own words for the same service, such as Webentwicklung (about 1,600 searches a month) and Website erstellen lassen (about 2,900), according to KWS Everywhere. English phrases like “website development Germany” and “web development company in Germany” are searched less but by buyers who often work in English. We build sites for both groups.

How much does a website cost in Germany?

German price guides give wide ranges, because scope decides the price. Published figures for 2026 look like this:

Project type Typical price What drives it
Template-based company site
From about €800
An existing theme adjusted to your branding
Portfolio or small brochure site
€1,500 to €3,000
A few pages and simple forms
Custom company website
€3,000 to €10,000
Custom design, SEO basics and integrations
Online store on Shopify
€1,500 to €20,000+
Catalog size, apps and system connections

Hourly rates in the same guides run from €60 to €120 for freelancers and €80 to €150 for agencies, but the total effort matters more than the rate. Prices are net, so add 19% VAT. Our quotes follow these ranges, and we confirm a fixed amount once the scope is written. Ask every provider to list hosting, maintenance and domain renewals separately.

German rules that affect your website

Business websites in Germany need an Impressum that visitors can reach in two clicks or fewer. Missing or incomplete details are a common reason for warning letters (Abmahnungen) from competitors.

Non-essential cookies and tracking need consent before they run. We connect the banner to analytics and test with consent granted and denied, so you do not lose data or break the law.

The privacy policy must name the tools you use, such as analytics, forms and fonts. We list them from the finished site, not from a template.

From 28 June 2025 the German accessibility law (BFSG) applies to many online shops and consumer services. Check whether it covers you. We build with proper headings, contrast, keyboard use and form labels.

Shops selling to consumers must show prices including VAT and state shipping costs clearly. We build these details into product and checkout pages.

This is general information, not legal advice, so ask a German lawyer to review anything sensitive in your industry.

Where we build sites in Germany

We work remotely with businesses in Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Cologne, Stuttgart and Düsseldorf, and with companies elsewhere in Germany. Projects run through a private staging site, shared documents and scheduled calls, so you can review work without meeting in person.

How a website project runs

A store we built from scratch

Parts Bazar sells automotive parts to buyers in several countries. We built the full website and then grew its search visits from 51 to 690 a month in four months with SEO and content. The case study has the details.

What to check before you hire a web developer in Germany

  • The quote lists pages, features, integrations and revision rounds.
  • Impressum, privacy policy and consent banner are part of the scope.
  • You own the code, design files, domain and hosting account.
  • Hosting and maintenance are priced separately.
  • The provider can say who writes the German copy.

How Softcrust Builds Websites for German Businesses

Built for Impressum, GDPR and Consent

Every site ships with an Impressum page, a privacy policy and a consent banner that is wired to analytics, so tracking only runs after a visitor agrees.

WordPress, Shopify or WooCommerce by Fit

We choose the platform by how you sell and who edits the site. German shops show prices with VAT, delivery times and return terms next to each product.

German, English or Both

We build in German, English or both, with language tags and a switcher. We agree who writes the German copy before design begins.

Handover and Support

At launch, redirects, analytics and the sitemap are set up, and your team gets a short training session. Maintenance for updates, backups and security is optional.

Website Development in Germany: Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a website cost in Germany?

Published guides put template-based company sites from about €800, custom company websites at €3,000 to €10,000 and Shopify stores from €1,500 to over €20,000. Prices are net, so add 19% VAT, and hosting and maintenance are usually extra.

How long does it take to build a website?

A company site usually takes 4 to 8 weeks from discovery to launch. Online stores and sites with several integrations can take 6 to 12 weeks. Late content from the client is the most common cause of delay.

Do I need a German-language website?

If your customers search in German, yes. Pages in German convert better for German searchers, and terms such as Webentwicklung and Website erstellen lassen are searched far more than the English equivalents. We can build in German, English or both.

What must a German website include by law?

Most business sites need an Impressum, a privacy policy and a cookie banner that works. Online shops must also show prices with VAT and shipping costs, and some now fall under the BFSG accessibility law. Ask a German lawyer to review your case.

WordPress or Shopify for a German business?

Choose WordPress for a service business or a content-heavy site, and Shopify for a store that wants fast setup. WooCommerce suits custom products or B2B pricing. We recommend one after a short discovery call.

Will I own my website after it is built?

You should. Ask every provider in writing who owns the code, design files, domain and hosting account. With Softcrust projects you receive admin access at launch.

Will I lose my Google rankings if I rebuild my site?

Not if the rebuild is handled carefully. We keep important URLs, add 301 redirects for any that change, carry over titles and descriptions, and check Search Console after launch.
